Challand-Saint-Victor

Challand -Saint -Victor is a town in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley. The municipality has 594 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012), is located at an average altitude of 744 m slm and has a size of 25 km ². The inhabitants are called challandins. Challand -Saint -Victor is a member of the Association of Municipalities Comunità Montana Evançon and is located in the Val d' Ayas, a side valley of the Valle d'Aosta.

Challand -Saint -Victor consists of the districts Abaz, Champeille, Châtaignères, Isollaz, Nabian, Sizan, Targnod, Vervaz, Ville and Viran. The neighboring municipalities are Arnad, Challand -Saint -Anselme, Emarèse, Issime, Montjovet and Verrès.

During the Fascist period, the village bore the name Italianate Villa St. Anselm.

History

On 26 June 1928, the municipality of Challand -Saint -Victor was merged with the municipality of Challand -Saint -Anselme by decree 1088. The new church was named Challants. The merger was undone on 12 September 1946. By the year 1976, the official spelling of the community Challants -Saint -Victor.
