Aymavilles

Aymavilles is a municipality with 2066 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) at the entrance of Cogne in the Aosta Valley (Italy).

Aymavilles consists of the districts Bettex Caouz, Cérignan, Chabloz, Champessolin, Cham plan Champleval lingerie, Château, Chef Lieu, Cheriettes, Chevril, Clos Savin, Crétaz Saint- Martin, Croux, Dialley, Ferrière, Folliex, Fournier, Glassier, La Camagne, La Cleyvaz, La Poyaz, La Roche, Micheley, Montbel, Moulins, Ozein ( Belley, Chantel, Dailley, La Charrère, Murasses, verse Les Prés, Ville), Pesse, Pompiod, Pont d' Aël, Saint- Léger, Saint Maurice, Seissogne, Sylvenoire, Turlin ( Chanabertaz, Turlin lingerie, Turlin Dessus ), Urbain, Venoir, Vercellod, Vieyes and Villetos.

The neighboring municipalities are Cogne, Gressan, Jovençan, Saint- Pierre, Sarre, Valsavarenche, Villeneuve.

Located in the village Aymavilles is a stronghold of Challants family, the most important of the former 220 noble families of the Aosta Valley. The castle is modeled after the type of a French Donjon of the 12th century. The existence of the castle is documented by the year 1278. It was greatly expanded in 1357. Inside the church are closed to the public, but is a small park in the summer often used for cultural events. Aymavilles in ancient times was probably one of the endpoints of the aqueduct of Pont d' Aël.

With the winery Les Crètes Aymavilles has also one of the hallmarks of viticulture in the Aosta Valley.

Between 1939 and 1945 the village was the Italianate name Aimavilla.
