La Salle, Aosta Valley

La Salle (about 1001 m. Above sea level. M) is a municipality of the autonomous region of Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps. It has 2 076 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and an area of 83 km ². La Salle is on the orographic right side of the Dora Baltea.

The community belongs to the community association Comunità Montana Valdigne Mont Blanc, is their capital. The neighboring municipalities are Avise, Courmayeur, La Thuile, Morgex and Saint- Rhémy -en -Bosses. La Salle consists of the districts Chabodey, Le Pont, La Clusaz, Croix -des- Prés, Echarlod, Echarlod dessus, Chez Beneyton, Fenêtre, Charvaz, Moras, Chez- les- Rosset, Villair, Cré, Villaret, Derby, Chez- les- Gontier, Le Champ, Ecours Prarion, Moyes, Cottin, Chaffieron Châtelard, Le Château Beauregard, Villarisson, Remondey, Les Places, Chaffiéry, Arbétey, Chez- les- baud, Chez- les- EMONET, Beillardey, Cheverel, Challancin, Grassey, Morge, Planaval, Piginière and Chez- Borgne.

Worth seeing are the Châtelard Castle from the 12th century and the castle Les Cours, where supposedly Pope Innocent V. was born.

In vineyards above the village, the vines for the Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle grow, a fresh and dry white wine.

During the Fascist period it received the name Sala Italianate Dora.
