  • April / May: In two parts published Jules Verne his short story Maître Zacharius ou l' avait perdu son âme qui horloger. Tradition genevoise ( Master Zacharius ) in the journal Musée des familles.
  • Theodor Fontane published his review A summer in London.

Poetry

  • December 3: Theodor Fontane contributes the ballad Archibald Douglas, for which he has taken over the so-called " Chevy Chase - verse " of altschottischen and old English ballads poet, under the title The exile during Founder's Day of the tunnel, across the Spree in Arnim Hotel ( Under the Linden 44) before amidst great rejoicing for the first time in the presence of Theodor Storm.
