1972 NHL Expansion Draft

The NHL Expansion Draft 1972 was held on 6 June 1972 by the National Hockey League. The draft was necessary, since the league before the 1972/73 season with the New York Islanders and the Atlanta Flames was increased by two teams.

Regulate

Since the cadres of the two new franchises had to be filled with players, it was necessary that the two new teams were allowed to choose three players from the existing NHL teams to come to a cadre strength of two goalkeepers and 19 outfield players. However, the old 14 NHL teams had the right to block a certain number of players, so do not make this choice available, so that they could keep their star players.
