1977–78 Division 1 season (Swedish ice hockey)

The season 1977/78 was the third season of Division 1 as the second highest Swedish hockey league.

Mode

The league was divided into the main round in four groups of ten teams. The top four teams from each group qualified for the playoffs, where the groups north and west, and the groups fought out South and East common playoffs. The two winners of each playoff group qualified again for the Kvalserien in which they met on the second last of the Elitserien. The two winners of Kvalserien were allowed to compete in the following season in the Elitserien. The last placed the northern group and the two last placed each of the other three main round groups rose directly from the Division 2. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
