1977–78 Nationale A season

The season 1977/78 was the 56th season of the National A, the highest French Hockey League. Champion for the second time total in club history the Gap Hockey Club. The Hockey Club de Caen descended to the second division.

Mode

The ten teams completed in the main round each of 18 games. The winner of the main round was champion. The last placed rose directly from the second division, while the penultimate had to play in the relegation against second- placed teams from the second division. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
