2009 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships
The 16th World Half Marathon Championships ( officially: 16th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships 2009 - Birmingham) were held on 11 October 2009 in the British city of Birmingham immediately before the Birmingham Half Marathon.
Prizes
The IAAF introduced a total prize money of U.S. $ 245,000 is available. This amount was divided staggered under the respective first six places in the individual and team standings.

From 99 Athletes registered 98 went to the start and reached the goal of 94.

All 59 reported starters reached the finish. Kimberley Smith, Elizet Banda (Zambia ZAM, 54th, 1:19:07 ) and Fong Ling Chao ( MAC Macau, 58th, 1:31:47 ) each provided on national records.
