Background

For Formula 3 Masters 2011 came to 16 pilots. Ten riders came from the Formula 3 Euro series and six from the British Formula 3 Championship.

Ten pilots started with Volkswagen and six with Mercedes-Benz engines.

Qualifying

The first qualifying session was held on a dry track. Here the fastest Roberto Merhi was before Daniel Juncadella and Felix Rosenqvist.

In the second Qulifyingabschnitt it was raining and no driver was able to improve his time. Under these weather conditions Marco Wittmann was the fastest followed by Roberto Merhi and Kevin Magnussen.

Race

At the start of the two - Prema Powerteam pilots came away well. Roberto Merhi drove directly to the right by an attack of his teammates to defend against. They collided and the car hooked up and drove very slowly. The driver directly behind it were still evade able in the back field but there were other touches. Juncadella had to park his vehicle directly, Merhi finished the race on. Pipo Derani and Carlos Muñoz finished their race also in the first round.

Beneficiaries of the starting accident was especially Felix Rosenqvist, who took over the lead of the race. Behind him rode Marco Wittmann and Kevin Magnussen.

Merhi, who now took the race from the back in attack, overtook several cars in the race and took the checkered flag at the end of the ninth. Following the race but was disqualified because of collision at the start.

Rosenqvist built over the whole race away his lead to Wittmann and won the race. Wittmann, who also had a big lead on his pursuers, was second. Kevin Magnussen, however, having to defend the entire race against Nigel Melker, but managed to hold his position until the finish.
