2011 Tour of Belgium

The 85th Tour of Belgium was a cycling stage race, which took place from 25 to 29 May 2011. It was held in five stages over a distance of 727.3 kilometers and was in the category 2.HC part of the UCI Europe Tour 2011.

Participant

A total of 21 teams participated with a different number of riders: seven UCI ProTeam, including the Belgian team Omega Pharma-Lotto and Quick Step, seven UCI Professional Continental teams and seven Belgian UCI Continental teams.

Route

The flat first section led more than 162 kilometers from Lochristi in the location on the coast Knokke -Heist. At 188 km long third day the first hills were on the program. On the way to Ypres had a final round that included three climbs, including the famous Ghent - Wevelgem Kemmel be tackled twice.

The following fourth section was 202 kilometers, the longest of the tour. During the journey of Bertem to Eupen had including the famous Mur de Huy, the target increase in the one-day race Walloon Arrow, and the Cote de Filot, Côte de Werbomont or the Col de Stockeu, all part of the classic Liege -Bastogne- Liege, to be climbed. Race course

The Dutchman Lieuwe Westra of Vacansoleil -DCM won just with only one second ahead of Philippe Gilbert in the prologue and took the black leader's jersey. In the second section of the German André Greipel celebrated by the Belgian team Omega Pharma-Lotto in a mass sprint his fourth win of the season and took over thanks to the time bonus for the stage winner, the overall lead. The next day, however, he could not intervene in the struggle for the victory, as the Lithuanian Neuprofi Aidis Kruopis ( Landbouwkrediet ) could not be beat. Greipel's teammate Gilbert also took the overall title because he conquered Zeitbonifikationen at the intermediate sprints.

On the queen stage Gilbert then sat by in the sprint against van Avermaet and Leukemans and was able to extend his overall lead. In this order, the three drivers occupied the seats on the final podium, because on the last section was again a mass sprint, the André Greipel could make victorious. Thus, the German secured the point standings.

Ratings during the race

At each stage three intermediate sprints took place, which governs the sprint (blue jersey) were. The scoring was made up of the counters that were awarded at the finish of each stage.
