2012 Milano–Torino

The 93 cycle race Milano-Torino ( officially: Milano - Torino - Trofeo Nobili Rubinetterie ) took place on 26 September 2012 in Italy for the first time since 2007, instead of again. The one-day race was part of the UCI Europe Tour 2012 and classified in the category 1.HC within them. The distance of the oldest bicycle race in the world totaled 193.5 km.

Participant

At the start, stood ten ProTeam, seven Professional Continental teams and a continental team. Known participating drivers were, among others, defending champion Danilo Di Luca of Acqua e Sapone, Diego Ulissi and Damiano Cunego (both Lampre- ISD), Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali and Moreno Moser (Liquigas -Cannondale ), Fredrik Kessiakoff, Paolo Tiralongo ( Astana Pro Team ), Sylvain Chavanel ( Omega Pharma- Quick Step), Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin- Sharp), Joaquin Rodriguez, Daniel Moreno ( Katusha Team ), Daniele Bennati, Chris Horner, the Swiss Oliver Zaugg ( RadioShack - Nissan), Alberto Contador (Team Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank), Pierrick Fedrigo, Sandy Casar, Thibaut Pinot (FDJ - Big Mat), John Gadret ( AG2R La Mondiale ), the Italian champion Franco Pellizotti ( Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela), Filippo Pozzato ( Farnese Vini- Selle Italia ) and Domenico Pozzovivo ( Colnago -CSF Inox ). John and Simon Geschke Fröhlinger (both Argos - Shimano ) took the color of Germany at the start. Many of the 143 participants used the race as preparation for the three days later held Tour of Lombardy.

Track and race course

The start of Milan -Turin in 2012 took place in the suburbs of Milan Settimo Milanese in the west of the city. The first forty kilometers led the field on flat terrain to the west in the city of Novara, where it went on slightly inclined road first to the north, and then south again towards Vercelli. Finally, the driver moved to the southwest. Shortly before Turin was a first, 4.1 km climb to the program. After the exit in the metropolis of the 3.5 km long final climb began (9.2% steep) to the Sanctuary of Superga in the east of the city.

After 24 kilometers, were with the two Italians Alfredo Baroni ( Farnese Vini- Selle Italia ) and Federico Rocchetti ( utensil North Named ) settle the two outliers of the day, who were able to work out a lead of more than nine minutes. On the ascent eighteen kilometers before the end of the two but were then obtained while now Eros Capecchi (Liquigas -Cannondale ) and the Pole Przemyslaw Niemiec ( Lampre- ISD), which, however, fell at the end of the exit, the peak formed. Capecchi was then placed at the beginning of the final ascent of the persecutors, the Swede Fredrik Kessiakoff from Astana Pro Team now established itself as a soloist at the top, counter- attacks from the chasing group were initially unsuccessful, until finally Joaquim Rodriguez ( Katusha Team ) and Diego Ulissi ( Lampre - ISD) could catch up. Shortly after, Alberto Contador (Team Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank) came forward, whereas Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas -Cannondale ) the rear of the Spaniard had failed to keep. Just before the one- kilometer mark Contador then moved to the other of them and celebrated an unchallenged solo victory at fifteen seconds ahead of Ulissi. For the Vuelta winner was the first victory in a one-day race in his entire professional career.
