Rule Changes
Sporting changes
The scoring system was adapted once more. For the three races of the Triple Crown, going as only race over a distance of 500 miles, double points will be awarded. The scoring scheme as well as the format of the qualification for the Indianapolis 500 has also been revised. Thus, the oval racing, the number has declined over the years, greater store again this season.
Punitive transfers for premature engine changes were abolished. If a motor has reached the planned mileage of 2,500 miles, the manufacturer receives ten bonus points in the Manufacturers' Championship. If the minimum mileage is not reached, the manufacturer ten points will be deducted in he Manufacturers' Championship. The Manufacturers' Championship was adapted to the system the driver standings. If a team arranges the engine change, the relevant drivers and the team ten points will be deducted. In this case, the vehicle is displaced to the end of the start field. An exception is the Indianapolis 500 starting place penalties for this race will be postponed to the next race.

All teams use the chassis DW12 and aero kits from Dallara and a Firestone tire.

Race Calendar
The race calendar of the IndyCar Series was released on October 17, 2013, and comprises 18 races at 15 racetracks.
The Itaipava São Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle and the Grand Prix of Baltimore were no longer on the calendar. A new addition is the Grand Prix Of Indianapolis.

Points system
Points are awarded according to the following scheme:
There is also an extra point for pole position and two additional points for the driver who has led the most laps the race. All drivers with at least one lead lap will also receive a point.
