The Paris's 8th arrondissement, Arrondissement de l' Elysee, is one of 20 arrondissement of the French capital Paris. It was founded during the expansion of the city to the west middle of the 19th century. In this district, a large part of the business life of Paris concentrated with a correspondingly high number of employees. Moreover, it is by the seat of the President, the Interior Ministry, many embassies and international media agencies the most important political center of the capital.

Geographical location

The 8th arrondissement is located directly on the right bank. It is bordered to the east by the 9th and 1st arrondissement, in the west on the 16th and to the northwest and north by the 17th arrondissement. On the opposite bank of the Seine is the 7th arrondissement.

Demographics

According to the census of 1999 39.310 inhabitants were reported in 388 acres of the 8th arrondissement. This corresponds to a low of Paris population density of 10 132 inhabitants per km ². Thus, in the arrondissement de l' Elysee 1.8% of the population of Paris have their main residence.

The population is distributed over the quarter as follows:

  • Champs -Elysées: 4,610 inhabitants
  • Faubourg du Roule: 10,000 inhabitants
  • Madeleine: 6,060 inhabitants
  • Europe: 18,640 inhabitants

Politics and Administration

The 8th arrondissement is the political center of the city. Here lies the Elysee Palace and the Ministry of Interior. (: Union for a Popular Movement UMP dt ) headquartered in the 8th arrondissement Since 2002, the conservative party Union pour un mouvement populaire has.

Railway stations and metro lines

The Quartier de l'Europe, the Gare Saint- Lazare, a railway terminus which handles mainly regional transport in the northwest of the Ile- de -France is located.

By and along the 8th arrondissement also lead the Métro lines 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 12 and 13

The RER A is in the 8th arrondissement, just one stop at Charles de Gaulle - Étoile and heads east across the district. The next stop ( Auber ) is located in the 1st arrondissement.
