The Rijksweg 5 is a highway in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands, which runs in a north -south direction and a length of 7 km, is one of the shortest highways in the Netherlands. It starts at Knooppunt Raasdorp in the west of Amsterdam and through the " Rolbaantunnel " to node De Hoek, where connection is made with the A4. The highway has not only descent and serves as an abbreviation for the traffic from South Holland in the north on the A9 Haarlem and Den Helder.

The " Rolbaantunnel " under crosses a taxiway of the airport Schiphol. This taxiway leads to the airstrip with the name " Polderbaan ". In fact, the highway runs between the parallel runways " Polderbaan " and " Zwanenburgbaan ", so to speak, by the Schiphol Airport through. South of the " Rolbaantunnel " under the crossed taxiway runs additionally immediately adjacent to the highway along. On the walls of the tunnel are mounted mosaics with designs from aviation.

Currently, the A5 is further extended under the name " Westrandweg " in the north. For this, a new tunnel under the North Sea Canal is dug through. In the immediate vicinity there is already a tunnel of the A10 but it is during rush hour, overcrowded, so the new tunnel is to be completed as soon as possible. Construction began in 2009. They should be completed in 2012. The cost is estimated at approximately 1.2 billion euros.
