The Rijksweg 37 ( Abbreviation: RW 37) - Short Form: Autosnelweg 37 ( Abbreviation: A37 ) - is a Dutch highway, which runs from Knooppunt Hoogeveen through the province of Drenthe Emmen over to the German border at Zwartemeer / twist. There she goes over to the federal highway 402. The A37 is part of the European Route 233

In the late 1990s a start was made to expand the then N37 to a highway with 2x2 lanes. The first piece between the Knooppunt Hoogeveen and the Knooppunt Holsloot was opened to traffic in 2003. End of October 2007, the last section between the Knooppunt Holsloot and the border was then released. On the German side the B402 continues and reached after about 2.7 km, at junction Meppen, the A31.

The main argument for the new building was the high number of fatal accidents on the N37. On top of that, the economy of the province wanted a better highway access.

The official opening of the motorway was born on 21 January 2008. During the opening ceremony were, among others Dutch Transport Minister Camiel Eurlings and the German Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee guest. The A37 is part of the quick connection between the Randstad and the north German cities of Hamburg and Bremen, and Scandinavia.

Noise barrier and Business Park

Between Klazienaveen and Zwartemeer a noise protection wall was built to protect against fine dust and traffic noise. It was put into operation on 22 February 2007.

On the A37, A37 in the Business Park, the TruckCity Emmen was to be built, a 6.2 -hectare area with a gated parking lot and a truck repair shop.

Later it turned out that the first TruckCity should arise in the Netherlands in Rotterdam and not in Emmen. On 31 March 2010 it was announced that yet a TruckCity next to the A37 will be built in Emmen with a new investor.
