Geographical Location

Alkersleben lies in the depression between the Wipfra Ettischleben in the south and in the north Elxleben six kilometers east of Arnstadt in about 290 meters. The Wipfra flows through the village in south -north direction, to the west is the 322 meter high Kirchheimer height and in the east, the landscape slowly rises to 393 meters high Sichemberg. There is also the airfield Arnstadt - Alkersleben. The municipal area is completely free of forest and agricultural land. It belongs to the Thuringian basin and is characterized by fertile soils and relatively dry climate.

History

A castle place secured once in Alkersleben the transition leading from Arnstadt towards Lobeda road over the Wipfra. A square hill still bears witness of this fortification.

For the first time, the village was mentioned in 1257 as Alkersleibin documented. In Alkersleben there was a manor whose men with the representatives of the Church given life in the village. 1816 acquired a family the manor. 1844, the stone bridge over the Wipfra was built. Until 1920, the village belonged to the Official Arnstadt in the Principality of Schwarzburg- Sondershausen.

Attractions

The village church of St. Gregory goes back to a chapel from the 12th century. You impressed by magnificent paintings from the Baroque period. The cemetery was declared a National Monument.

Economy and infrastructure

Alkersleben is an agricultural center.

A Dutch investor was planning since the end of 2005, the construction of a large pig breeding facility with 22,500 animals and a slurry tank with 6,500 cubic meters capacity at the site of a former dairy farm, where up to the turn (GDR) 2000 cows were held. Against this very controversial project, particularly the possible odor nuisance in a wide area, were directed over 2000 objections from citizens and organizations. The project was approved in early April 2009 by the State Administration Office in Thuringia and is realized.

From Alkersleben the roads to Dornheim and Osthausen - Wülfershausen. To the east of the village lies the airfield Arnstadt - Alkersleben. In his Historic Flight days and Speed ​​Days are held regularly.
