Geography

Martinroda lies between the Gehlberger Thuringian Forest in the south and the clean mountains in the north. Through the town flows, coming from the southwest, the Reichenbach, empties into the village in the mid - Titterwind stream that comes from the opposite direction. History

The village was first mentioned in 1219 as Mainharderode. Here a knight Mainhard to have founded an estate from Arnstadt. The name changed several times: Merdenroda ( 1500), My Hard Red ( 1559 ), Marterott. As one of the first places the village was under the protection of just 4 km near Elger castle. The legend of the hidden barrel
