Geraberg

The municipality of Gera mountain in Ilm-Kreis, state of Thuringia, lies on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest, about 40 km south of the state capital Erfurt, in 400 to 500 m above sea level. Geographical Location

Gera mountain lies in the valley of the Tame Gera at the confluence of Körnbachs in about 450 meters. Southwest of the village begins the Thuringian Forest. North of the village is the 496 meter high mountain Geschwendaer, south borders Geraberg directly to Elgersburg.

Geology

Geologically, Gera mountain in the border area between the igneous rocks of the Thuringian Forest and calcareous Zechsteinablagerungen on the edge of the forest and the mountains made ​​up of sandstone and limestone foothills. The municipality of Gera Hill was built and earned her place names by connecting the former settlements Gera and Arlesberg.
