Geology

By scientists at the Freiberg 1988, the oldest traces of life ( plant plankton ) were detected in dark gray to black chert on the territory of the former GDR in the Altenfelder layers of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. The chert belongs geologically to the Precambrian and consists predominantly of the material quartz. It owes its dark color to the relatively high content of carbon.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1492. In the document there is talk of cutting mills on " Clemen stone " and " on the old field ", whose exact location is unknown. Notes from the year 1490 situated on a desert village instead of going to the top Oelze, called " old field ", suggest that the location of Old frame on a old deserted village took its starting point and therefore must be witnessed considerably older than documented.

In April 1525 the peasant uprising broke out in Thuringia from, in consequence called the settlers of forest villages into a so-called " evangelical brotherhood ", also forest covenant together. In addressing the troops of the feudal landlords also occupied the "old field ". In 1550 was built on the territory of the present-day village at the confluence of Reischelbach Oelze and a smelter in which the mined silver in the environment and copper ore was melted. From about 1600 to 1646 Old Field was a deserted village. In 1646 led the colonization of Glashütte " on the old field ", an abandoned mining camp, or for re- occupation of the site. From this glassworks was a development soon to the largest village in the then official Mitre in the Principality of Schwarzburg- Sondershausen.

The glass-making remained next to the brickyard, and Schachtelmacherei Muldenhauerei until today the main industry of the place. Merchants from Thuringia brought the glass to Holland, since about 1690 Dutch merchants came here.

In the years 1738-1741 the now listed church was built on a projecting rock.

Due to the location in the mountains without sufficient arable land occurred in the Old Field repeated famines, most recently in 1772 when 72 people died of starvation. 1846 a fire destroyed the village, which fell 17 houses completely to the victim.

In the late 19th century only worked a glassworks; until about 1900, there was hut start-ups.

1901, a glassmaker Association and in 1905 a branch of the SPD was founded. In 1911 Wilhelm Pieck said in an election meeting with the workers old box. 1919 involved the Altenfelder Workers' and Soldiers on the dismissal of the district administrator Gehrener, 1920 were Altenfelder glass makers involved in the general strike against the Kapp Putsch. In 1954 the award "State- recognized resort " at the Old Field was awarded for the first time. In 1998, the community got this predicate then permanently awarded by the Thuringian Ministry of Economy and infrastructure.
