History

The first documented mentions of Altenmarkt found in 1106 with the mention of the district Frenz ( " Frodniz " ) and 1139 with the entry of the district Essling ( " Ozlich "). Altenmarkt as " Antiquum forum" is then for the first time in 1335 documentary evidence. By the middle of the 12th century is likely the first church to have been built, which was consecrated in 1152 a branch of the mother parish of St. Gallen.

From the 16th century the iron production and processing flourished in Altenmarkt. In the years 1575 and 1793 Altenmarkt was destroyed by fire. In the period from 1800 to 1809, French troops repeatedly invaded the Old Market and looted the place. In 1786 took place in the wake of Joseph's Church reform, the Old Market survey for independent parish.

The period after the turmoil of the Second World War and the occupation by Russian and British troops brought a flowering of the place with the longest necessary infrastructural measures, the construction of a Ennskraftwerkes and the emergence of industrial plants.
