Ana Jelušić

Ana Jelušić [ ana jɛluʃitɕ ] ( born December 28, 1986 in Rijeka ) is a former Croatian alpine skier. She counted during several years of the best slalom skiers in the World Cup. In addition, they also launched in the giant slalom, was in this discipline but less successful. In addition to two medals at Junior World Championships Jelušić achieved two podium finishes in the World Cup and three top - 10 finishes at World Championships.

Career

First international successes celebrated Jelušić 2001 with victories in the slalom of the Trofeo Topolino and Whistler Cup. After a few starts at FIS races from December of the same year, the then 15 - year old started in February 2002 as the youngest participant at the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. She was 23 in the slalom and 37th in giant slalom. From next winter Jelušić started in the World Cup. In her debut on 26 October 2002 at the Giant Slalom on the Rettenbachferner in Sölden, she won with room 23 at first World Cup points. In the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz Jelušić was 24th in slalom and 28th in giant slalom. Three weeks later, she won the silver medal in slalom at the World Junior Championship.

After Jelušić had achieved / 2004 first top -20 results in the World Cup in winter 2003, she was surprised at the beginning of the 2004/2005 season with fifth place in the slalom in Aspen. Another top -10 result she succeeded in January 2005, finishing ninth in the slalom in Zagreb. Also, it reached ninth place in the Slalom World Championships 2005 in Santa Caterina. At the Junior World Championship 2005 in Bardonecchia, she won the bronze medal in this discipline. The 15th slalom rank achieved Jelušić at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin, in the giant slalom she was disqualified in the second round of. In the World Cup they reached two top-10 results in the slalom in the season 2005/2006 as last year. In addition to numerous giant slalom, where they came but never approached her slalom results and mostly not for the second round of the 30 best qualified, she took in March 2006 in Kvitfjell for the only time in a super-combined in the World Cup in part. This she finished on the 31st place.

To Jelušićs most successful season was the winter of 2006 /2007. After she finished fourth twice in the slalom in Levi and Semmering, she reached on 4 January 2007 in the slalom in Zagreb with second place behind Marlies Schild their first podium and at the same time her best World Cup result. With another two fifth places in Kranjska Gora and in the Sierra Nevada they finished seventh in the slalom World Cup. At the 2007 World Championships in Åre she missed as fourth fastest time in the slalom despite second pass, the medal ranks by 34 hundredths of a second. Only slightly worse results were Jelušićs in the next three years. On 25 November 2007, she stood as the third slalom in Panorama for the second time on the podium, followed by other top-10 results. A place among the top ten in the slalom World Cup they failed in the seasons 2007/2008 ( 11 ), 2008 /2009 ( 12 ) and 2009 /2010 ( 13 ) just barely. At the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere she reached the seventh and at the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver in twelfth place in the slalom.

In the season 2010/2011 Jelušić could not keep up with the best in the world. While they drove in three slaloms into the top 20, including an eleventh place in Zagreb, but fell in the slalom World Cup back to rank 25. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, she was 17 in slalom. In April 2011 Jelušić announced that it will participate in the Winter 2011/2012 because of persistent asthma problems at no competitions. After a year's break from racing she declared in April 2012 her retirement from ski racing.
