Andrée Brunet

Andrée Brunet, born Joly ( born September 16, 1901 in Paris, † March 30, 1993 in Boyne City, Michigan) was a French figure skater who started in a single run and pair skating.

In a single run Joly was 1921-1930 times in a row champion of France and thus holds the record for the most titles in the women's competition at the French Championships. She took part in the individual race at two Olympic Games. 1924 in Chamonix, they finished fifth and in 1928 in St. Moritz, she was eleventh.

Unequal successful Joly was with Pierre Brunet in pair skating. Overall, they were eleven times French champion ( 1924-1933 and 1935 ) and took part in five World Cups. At their first World Cup they won in Vienna in 1925 the silver medal behind Herma Szabo and Ludwig Wrede. For all other entries, 1926 in Berlin, 1928 in London, 1930 in New York and in 1932 in Montreal, the couple became world champion. In 1932 won the Brunets in domestic Paris, in their only European Cup participation, the gold medal. Joly and Brunet disputed together a total of three Olympic Games. 1924 in Chamonix, they won the bronze medal behind Helene Engelmann and Alfred Berger from Austria and Ludowika and Walter Jakobsson of Finland, 1928 in St. Moritz and 1932 in Lake Placid, they were Olympic champions. In protest against the Nazis, they waived their possible title defense at the Olympic Winter Games in 1936, but had not contested any more World Cup since 1932.

The pair finished his amateur career in 1936. They were professionals and emigrated in 1940 to the United States. They were later coach. Her students included, among other things Carol Heiss and Scott Hamilton.

Andrée Joly and Pierre Brunet married in 1929. The couple had a son, Jean- Pierre, who was with Donna Jeanne Pospisil in the years 1945 and 1946 U.S. champion in the sport pairs. Jean -Pierre was killed in a car accident in 1948 19 -year-old died.

Andrée and Pierre Brunet were included in the Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1976.
