Anglican Church of Tanzania

The Anglican Church of Tanzania (English Anglican Church of Tanzania ) is a member church of the Anglican Communion in Tanzania and going back to a mission station in 1864.

In 1970 the Church of Tanzania became an independent Anglican Church Province, whose territory coincides with that country. Here are 26 dioceses ( Central Tanganyika, Dar es Salaam, Kagera, Kiteto, Kondoa, Lweru, Mara, Masasi, Morogoro, Kilimanjaro, Mpwapwa, Newala, Rift Valley, Rorya, Ruaha, Ruvuma, Shinyanga, South West Tanganyika, Southern highlands, Tabora, Tanga, Tarime, Victoria Nyanza, Western Tanganyika, Rukwa Ziwa, Zanzibar ), headed as Primate the Archbishop of Tanzania stands.

This is elected every five years by the provincial synod, which is the highest authority of the ecclesiastical province and is composed of the House of Bishops, House of Clergy and the House of Laity.

Like other Anglican churches, including the Church Province of Tanzania has condemned the consecration of gay bishop Gene Robinson and explains the communion with the Episcopal Church of the United States ended.

The Anglican Church of Tanzania has no women's ordination.
