Anglo-Italian Cup

History

English- Italian Cup

Cause for this competition was the League Cup winning the English club Swindon Town in 1969, after the European football body UEFA the club but as members of the only third-rate Third Division refused to participate in the European Fairs Cup. The tournament was initially set at six English and Italian teams, whose members did not belong to the respective top domestic league. After 1973 Newcastle United could win the competition in its fourth edition, the Anglo-Italian League Cup was initially declared over until it was reissued in 1975.
