Apulia

Apulia (in Italian Puglia [ puʎ ː a] or often in the plural Puglie [ puʎ ː s ]; Latin Apulia ) is a location in South-East Italy Region with its capital in Bari. It has 4,050,803 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012). The Salento peninsula, in southern Apulia forms the so-called "heel" of the Italian "boot ".

Geography

The region extends along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. With Palascia the coast reached at Otranto the easternmost point of Italy, which is located only 80 km from the Albanian coast.

The area consists of 53.3 % from levels to 45.3 % from the hills and to 1.5% from the mountains. This Apulia is the flattest region of Italy.
