Arrondissement of Sarlat-la-Canéda

The district Sarlat- la -Caneda is an administrative district in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Dordogne is also a " district of Sarlat ", which, however, was smaller than the present district. On February 17, 1800, and it established the extensions with parts of the former districts Belvès Montignac and Sarlat, the arrondissement.

With the consolidation of Sarlat La Caneda and on March 1, 1965, the district was renamed in Sarlat- la -Caneda.

Geography

The district is bordered on the northeast by the district Brive- la -Gaillarde in the département of Corrèze (Limousin ), in the southeast and south by the arrondissements Gourdon and Cahors in the department of Lot ( Midi- Pyrénées), also on the south by the district of Villeneuve -sur -Lot in the department of Lot- et- Garonne, in the southwest of the district Bergerac and on the northwest by the district of Périgueux.
