Geographical Location

Aßlar located at the Valley of dill (Lower Dilltal ), which opens into the Lahn in neighboring Wetzlar, at the junction of Upper Westerwald (Westerwald, in the west) to Krofdorf King Forst and Hörre ( Gladenbacher Bergland ).

History

Aßlar is mentioned by a deed of gift for the first time in the Lorsch codex in the year 783.

Like many other places Aßlar evolved from a few large farms, situated on the creeks, on industrialization before the First World War to a size of about 5,000 inhabitants, and it always formed a community with the lying on the opposite Dill shore district of small old towns. Small Altenstädten kept trying to be independent, but could never break away from the much larger Aßlar.

With the addition of approximately 1,500 displaced persons after World War II and the integration of communities Bechlingen, Bergshausen, Bermoll, Oberlemp on 31 December 1971. Upon completion of the municipal reform in Hesse by inclusion of Werdorf on 1 January 1977 by a state law, reached Aßlar its present size of approximately 4400 ha with approximately 13,700 inhabitants.

Coat of arms
