Athletics at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's marathon

The marathon of men at the 2012 Olympics in London was held on 12 August 2012. 105 athletes participated, of which 85 reached the target.

The competition was carried out in a final run.

The start was on the main avenue of The Mall. First, a smaller round about 3.5 km was run. The runners started east to Trafalgar Square and followed the Northumberland Avenue to the River Thames. Here they turned left and followed the river to Westminster Bridge. The athletes turned onto the bridge and used there by about a third. They walked back, past the Big Ben to St. James 's Park, which they then circled. Three times, an approximately 13 km long round has now gone again at the starting point.

Again, it went through Trafalgar Square to the Thames. Here the athletes arch now left and followed the river to the height of Blackfriars Bridge. Shortly after the bridge, the runners veered to the left and rounded the St Paul's Cathedral. It continued eastwards to the Tower Hill. There turned the starter box, it went over the Lower Thames Street to London Bridge. Here the runners turned right around again to cross the Cannon Street to St Paul's Cathedral. It went along the Thames back to Westminster Bridge, turn right along the St. James's Park, until they came back to the starting point. After finishing the third round of the runners reached the finish line here.
