Above the waistline, the coupe a flat Asked windscreen and side windows flatter than the Audi 80 and a hatchback with a small hatchback. Eye-catching feature is the tall, narrow taillights, between which there is a black, fluted bezel is. Below this panel runs a continuous red light band ( backed with " Coupe " lettering ), similar to older models of the Porsche 911 It was made as a "GT " with 5 - cylinder engines or as "GL" with the familiar 4-cylinder engines the Audi 80 B2 available.

The rectangular dual headlights have a surround made of chrome-plated trim ( similar to those of the Audi 200 C2 5E/5T type 43), the indicators and the ( available at an additional cost ) front fog lamps are integrated into the bumper. In the C-pillar generously sized vent grilles are recessed. Except for the 1.6 L (later 1.8 L) 75 hp four-cylinder coupe had a standard flat black plastic rear spoiler, the early models of PUR foam, later hollow all models. Also, the coupe GL with the new 1.8 liter 90 hp engine from 1982 has this spoiler.

In the first years of construction, the coupes were generally offered in two-tone GT equipment, where the body was completely stuck below the bumpers / side rubbing strips with a darker color to a film ( eg white / gray). The basic models ( GL) were against normal running single color, and the front spoiler was here available only at extra cost. With the revision in the summer of 1984, the two- color design fell off.

The second and more extensive facelift took place at the vacation in August 1984. The two bumpers and side moldings have been modified, two-piece sill covers fitted plastic, the front and rear sections thereby created a total of more massive and grille and headlight lenses slanted to show the family resemblance to the aerodynamic Audi 100/200 C3 (type 44). The rear lights and the continuous light strip were now dyed black. The rear spoiler has now been taken over by " Ur-quattro " - initially in black, on later models in body color. In the interior, dashboard and cockpit were modernized with new fabrics and color patterns.

The " Coupe GL" ( with four-cylinder engine ) remained in the program and has now also called " Coupe GT", was now but at first glance indistinguishable from the popular five-cylinder models. Inside was a modified speedometer cover and velor seats from the Audi 80 used, which are known from the GT sport seats, however, were available at extra cost. In the later models and the 4 -cyl special " Audi Coupe exclusive" GT interior was standard equipment until the end of production.
