Geographical location
Balgheim is situated in a valley on the edge of the Baar plateau at the foot of the Swabian Alb and the Trinity Mountain. About the area of the municipality runs the European Watershed Rhine-Danube. Here is the source of Prim, which opens in Rottweil in the Neckar; only a kilometer away in the neighboring Dürbheim stems from the lazy stream that flows through the Elta in Tuttlingen into the Danube.

The municipality is bordered to the north by Böttingen, on the southeast by Dürbheim, to the south by Riet -Weilheim and to the west by the city Spaichingen.
History
Graves from the Merovingian period suggest a foundation of the town in the 6th or 7th century. Was first documented Balgheim in 1113. 1420 the village was sold to the Free Imperial City of Rottweil, where it remained until 1689. Then the gentlemen changed frequently, until it came to Württemberg in 1806.

On the outskirts of Balgheim the Federal Highway 14 runs between Rottweil and Tuttlingen. The Gäubahn Stuttgart-Singen overcomes the European watershed here. At the breakpoint Balgheim weekdays are hourly Ringzug connections to Rottweil, Tuttlingen and Geisingen - Leipferdingen.
