Bancroft is a city ( town) in the U.S. state of Maine in Aroostook County. With 68 inhabitants (; census 2010) it is among the poorest inhabitants Towns in the United States.
Geography and transport
The city is located in the extreme south of Aroostook County on Mattawamkeag River. Through the city leads the country road from Wytopitlock by Danforth and the railway line Bangor - Vanceboro, which is still operated in freight traffic. The last passenger train stopped at the station in 1954 by Bancroft, until the end of 1994 went through the Atlantic the VIA Rail train station without stopping. The nearest airport with scheduled flights is located in Presque Isle.
History
The settlement was appointed on February 5, 1889 to the city.
