Barbara Petzold

Barbara Petzold - Beyer ( born August 8, 1955 in Hammerunterwiesenthal ) is a former German cross-country skier who competed for East Germany in the 1970s and 1980s.

The daughter of cooperative farmers began in 1967 with training in cross-country skiing and launched from 1969 to 1982 for the SC tractor Oberwiesenthal under coaches like Erich Linke, Heinz and Christine Nestler Nestler. She is the first German Olympic champion in cross-country skiing. At the Winter Games in 1980, she won gold over 10 km and with the relay. In addition Bronze comes at the Winter Games in 1976 bronze team. At World Championships Petzold won four more medals (3 x silver, 1 bronze ).

During the 8th and 9th election period it belonged from 1981 to 1986 for the FDJ of the People's Chamber of the GDR. From 1977 to 1981 she was a member of the SED.
