Geography

The place is about 710 m above sea level, on the German -Czech border in the valley of Pöhlbaches. The highest elevation is the same bear stone with 898 m height.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring municipalities are in the north Königswalde, to the west and south Sehmatal Oberwiesenthal. In the east, the Czech town Vejprty is ( Weipert ). The next large town in the north of Annaberg -Buchholz is mentioned.

Structure

While there is no official districts, however, a distinction between bears stone, Stahlberg, Kühberg and precipitation. Together with Königswalde forms the municipality to manage Community Baerenstein.

History

The place bears stone was built around 1500 1525 there is the first documentary mention. " On Pernštejna ". 1548 Bear Stone became a council village of Annaberg. With about 700 inhabitants, it was after the Thirty Years War one of the most populous villages in the Ore Mountains. 1834 Bear Stone was granted market rights. With the construction of the railway line from Annaberg to Weipert 1867 's economic boom began, especially in the textile industry. In the 1875, part of the Amtshauptmannschaft Annaberg rural community in 1896 Stahlberg was incorporated.

After 1945, the existing border crossings were closed in Czechoslovakia and opened again until after 1990.

Culture and sights

In Baerenstein directly on the B 95, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer to 1655 and opposite the Town Hall in 2013 made ​​replica of the Kursächsische half mile column No. 54 of the former postal course Leipzig - Chemnitz - Annaberg - Carlsbad by 1723.
