Geography

The town lies at the mouth of the Red puddle in the Zschopau. The Waldhufendorf Dörfel is located north of Schlettau.

Neighboring communities

To the east of Annaberg -Buchholz adjacent to the city, in the southeast Sehmatal, in the south Crottendorf, southwest disk Mountain, to the west and to the north Elterlein Tannenberg.

History

To protect the crossing over the Zschopau and as a way station for Preßnitzer pass was laid in 1100 at a castle. The area belonged to the Nice burgers and was responsible for the sovereignty of the King of Bohemia. On March 13, 1351 and Friedrich Bernhard von Schoenburg Hassenstein received ( Hasištejn ) Preßnitz and Schlettau who ever mention is made in the deed for the first time (under the name Sleten or Slatin ), as a fief. On March 20, 1413 Schlettau came in a swap deal to the monastery green grove. 1367 Schlettau oppidum is called, in the middle of the 15th century, the first municipal rights assigned.

1515 Schlettau was free mining town. 1527/1529 the Reformation was introduced by Balthasar Loy and John Bock in the region. With the associated dissolution of the monastery Gruenhain Schlettau came under Wettin rule. Because of the important traffic situation occurred during the Thirty Years' War several times for pulling marauding troops. From 1725 onwards they started to potato cultivation on Schlettauer hallways. When the castle was no longer used from the mid-18th century, it fell into an increasing extent. Through the city leads the holiday road Silver Street. The best known tourist destination is the Schlettau Castle.
