Berekum Municipal District

The Berekum District is one of 138 districts in Ghana. It is located in the center of Ghana in the Brong- Ahafo Region, where one of 21 regional districts. The Berekum District borders the districts Sunyani Municipal, Dormaa, Jaman South and Tain. Chief executive over the 955 km ² large district with about 83 661 inhabitants, Kwabena Kyere Yeboa with the seat in the district capital of Berekum.

Until 1989, the Berekum District was part of the much larger Berekum - Jaman District, which by presidential decree in the districts Jaman District ( which was in turn divided in 2003) and Berekum District is divided.

Geography

Distributed over the entire district grows half Green wet forest with some of the export economy important hardwoods such as Odum tree, Wawa and Kyenkyen.

The Berekum District is drained by numerous rivers such as the Amomaso, Awasu, Kyimina and Kora.

Constituencies

In the district of Berekum an eponymous constituency was established. In the constituency Nkrabeah Effah - Dartey won for the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) in the 2004 parliamentary elections the seat in the Ghanaian parliament.
