Wenchi Municipal District

The Wenchi District is one of 138 districts in Ghana. It is located in the center of Ghana in the Brong- Ahafo Region, where one of 19 regional districts. It is bordered by the districts of Kintampo South, Tain, Sunyani Municipal and Techiman Municipal in the Brong- Ahafo Region. It also borders the Ashanti Region with their district Offinso.

The Wenchi District was until 2003 the largest district of the Brong- Ahafo Region. The former district Wenchi was 4939 km ², and contained 166 633 inhabitants in 2002. He was divided only by Presidential Decree of 12 November 2003 in 2004 by splitting the smaller new district Wenchi and Tain district.

Constituencies

In the district of Wenchi an eponymous constituency has been established. Here won Professor George Yaw Gyan - Baffour for the party New Patriotic Party (NPP ) in the 2004 parliamentary elections the seat in the Ghanaian parliament.
