Kintampo North Municipal District

The Kintampo North District is one of 138 districts in Ghana. It is located in the center of Ghana in the Brong- Ahafo Region, where one of 19 regional districts. The Kintampo District borders on the districts of South and Kintampo in the Brong- Ahafo Pru region. It also borders the Northern Region (Ghana) with the districts Bole, Central and East Gonja Goja. Chief executive over the 5108 km ² large district is Awudulai Razak with the seat in the district capital of Kintampo.

Geography

The district is located in the foothills of the Volta Basin at an average height of 60 to 150 meters above sea level. Major rivers in the district are the questions, Urukwain, Nyamba, Oyoko, Nante, pumpum and Tanfi. All rivers flow through the district to the west and open at Buipe in the Black Volta. Some waterfalls are in the district of interesting destinations for tourists such as the Fuller Falls on Oyoko River and the Kintampo case on pumpum River.

The climate of the district is characterized by its location between the savanna and the tropical climate. Overall, here there is a alternating humid climate with an annual rainfall between 1,400 mm and 1,800 mm annual average, falling in two rainy seasons. Annual maximum temperatures occur regularly with about 30 degrees in March; the coldest month is August with an average temperature of 24 degrees. Even in the dry season there is a humidity between 75 and 80 percent.

Population

It is estimated that 2002 96.538 people lived in the district. Traditionally exist in the area of the district two dominions of Upper chiefs ( Paramountcies ) with the Nkrwanzamanhene and the Momanhene. Important of these are the Mo ( also called Deg ) and the Nkoranza than traditional inhabitants of the land part. Furthermore, here live Akan, Ewe and Ga as well as some tribes from the north of the country. With 62.2 percent of the population in Christianity is the largest religious community, followed by Muslims at 29.6 percent, and the followers of traditional religions with 8.2 percent.

Economy

The economy in the Kintampo North District is essentially based on the agricultural sector. About 71 percent of the population is employed in agriculture. Above all, yam, maize, cassava, rice, plantains, beans, tomatoes, cashew, n mango, tomatoes, onions, watermelons and soybeans are grown.

Weekly markets are held in Kintampo, Babatorkuma, Dawadawa, Gulumpe and New Longoro. Only the markets in Kintampo and Babatorkuma take place in well developed localities. In the district of the Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd. , National Investment Bank and the Kintampo Rural Bank operate.

Education

Of the total population, 42 percent have never attended a school in life. Another 47 percent had next to a primary school education and a middle school. Only 10.4 percent of the population have completed secondary education and 0.4 percent have a university or other higher education. Overall, the literacy rate is 58.4 percent far below the national average of 67 percent. Nearly 40 percent of teachers have a job-specific training.

Health

In Kintampo North of the population are a hospital, two health centers, two rural hospitals, a health clinic and a maternity house. At a doctor dispensed 45 423 people, which is only two doctors in the district operates. The national average is here at 20,000 patients and a doctor. In Kintampo North District in an eponymous constituency was established in the Stephan Kunsu for the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) won the seat in the Ghanaian Parliament in the parliamentary elections of 2004.
