Techiman Municipal District

The Techiman Municipal District ( also: Tackyiman District ) is one of 138 districts in Ghana. It is located in the center of Ghana in the Brong- Ahafo Region, where one of 19 regional districts. It is bordered by the districts Nkoranza, Wenchi, Kintampo Municipal and Sunyani in the Brong- Ahafo Region. It also borders the Ashanti Region with their district Offinso. Chief Executive of 1119 km ² large district with 173 742 inhabitants, Prince Yaw Donyina.

The district is adjacent to the district Sunyani Municipal the only urban district in the region. It was founded in the administrative reform of 1978.

Population

The population is composed of up to 40 different ethnic groups. Mainly the population is, however, the ethnic groups of the Akan ( 64.4 percent), Brong together (75 percent of Akangruppe ), Gonja, Dagomba, Mamprusi and Sissala.

With 68.1 percent of the population, Christianity is the largest religion in the district.

Constituencies

In the district of Techiman Municipal two constituencies have been established. In Techiman North constituency Alex Kyeremeh won the constituency for the party National Democratic Party (NDC ) in the 2004 parliamentary elections the seat in the Ghanaian parliament. In the constituency Tchiman South Simons Addai also won by the NDC seat in Parliament.
