Bernard Vajdič

Bernard Vajdić (born 18 September 1980 in Velenje ) is a former Slovenian skier. He specializes in the slalom and giant slalom.

Biography

In January 1996 Vajdić first participated in FIS races, from December 1998 then served in the European Cup. At the Junior World Championship 2000, held at various locations in the Canadian province of Quebec, Vajdić each won the silver medal in the giant slalom and in the combination. The following year, he was at the Universiade in Zakopane third in the slalom.

His debut in the World Cup had Vajdić on 31 October 1999 in the Giant Slalom in Tignes. Due to the lack of progress he came in the next four years almost exclusively in the European Cup for use. World Cup points he won for the first time on 28 February 2004 in Kranjska Gora than 26 of the giant slalom. At the end of the winter, he won his first of two previously Slovenian league titles. In the European Cup 2005/06 season he was fifth in the giant slalom standings. At the 2005 World Championships in Bormio was his best result of 18th in the combination; at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he finished 19th place in the slalom.

In the season 2006/ 07 Vajdić found the connection to the top. On 17 December 2007 he achieved his best World Cup result, ranked fifth in the slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia. He equaled this performance 25 January 2009 at the Hahnenkamm slalom in Kitzbuehel. At the 2007 World Championships in Åre, he finished 26th in the giant slalom and at the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere 18th in the giant slalom. In the slalom, he left each in the second round. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, he failed in the first slalom run.

From the season 2009/10 Vajdić fell in the World Cup back significantly. After driving the 2009/10 only three times in the top 20, he remained in the seasons 2010/11 and 2011/12 without countable results. After occasional races in the winter of 2012/13 he retired from professional racing.
