Bert Boom

Albertus " Bert" Boom ( born May 6, 1938 in Markelo ) is a former Dutch cyclist.

Bert went boom as a racer of the late 1950s active until 1980. His greatest successes were the victory in the amateur uprights at the UCI Track World Championships 1969 in Brno behind pacemaker Bruno Walrave and his third place at the World Cup 1971 in Varese, behind Joop Stakenburg. His last race went boom at the age of 42 years in 1980 in Zutphen. He was palpably against a competitor and announced to the jury that the punishment would not make sense: "Tomorrow stop ik. "

After the end of his active career boom Bert worked as a mechanic for cycling teams and opened their own bicycle shop and later became a representative for the company Gazelle and Shimano. He also worked as a technical assistant of wheelchair basketball players and the blind tandem rider Jan Mulder. As caregivers of disabled teams he was already at the Olympic Games and World Championships.

Albertus Boom is the father of cyclist Bart boom.
