Rainer Podlesch

Rainer Podlesch ( born October 4, 1944 in Dobbertin ) is a retired German racing cyclist and current coach.

From 1965 to 1986 Podlesch, a member of the SV was Zehlendorfer squirrels, for West German cycling team. In the train of four, he was second at the Olympic Games in Mexico City ( with Jürgen Colombo, Jürgen Kissner, Udo Hempel and Karl link), but had been replaced after the first round due to injury against Kissner. In 1967 he was in Amsterdam World Cup bronze medalist ( with link, Kissner and Karl -Heinz Henrichs ) in the team pursuit and at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 he drove in the street of four (Rank 20).

His greatest successes, however, had Rainer Podlesch of stayers. He was twice world champion in 1978 and 1983. Moreover, he was several times vice-champion and third at world championships.

Rainer Podlesch today is national coach of the posts in the German Cycling Federation. He is the father of Carsten Podlesch and the brother of Karsten Podlesch, both also cyclists.
