Bill Orton

William " Bill" Orton ( born September 22, 1948 in North Ogden, Weber County, Utah, † 18 April 2009 at Juab County, Utah ) was an American politician.

Orton attended Brigham Young University in 1973 and received his Bachelor of Science in 1979 and his Juris Doctor. He was then taken in the same year in the legal profession and practiced as a lawyer from 1980.

Orton was in 1990 elected as a Democrat to the 102nd Congress and represented there from 3 January 1991 to 3 January 1997 State of Utah House of Representatives of the United States. In the elections to the 105th Congress in 1996, he could not defend his seat and lost him to the Republican Chris Cannon. After retiring from Congress Orton began to practice law. In 2000 he ran for governor of Utah. However, he could not prevail against the Republican incumbent Mike Leavitt himself.

Orton had an accident 18 April 2009 with his quad and died at the scene from his injuries. He was married and had two sons. His wife, whom he had met during his tenure as congressman.
