Sherman P. Lloyd

Sherman Parkinson Lloyd ( born January 11, 1914 in St. Anthony, Idaho, † December 15, 1979 in Salt Lake City, Utah ) was an American politician. Between 1963 and 1965, and 1967-1973, he was the second electoral district of the state of Utah in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and rise in Utah

Sherman Lloyd attended the public schools in St. Anthony and Rexburg. Then he studied until 1935 at the Utah State University in Logan. This was followed by a law degree from George Washington University, from which he graduated in 1939. After his in the same year gained admission to the lawyer, he began practicing in Salt Lake City.

Between 1940 and 1962, Lloyd was advisor to the Utah Retail Grocery Association, a retail association in Utah. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. From 1954 to 1962 he was a member of the Senate from Utah. He was 1959 President of the house and in the meantime faction leader of the Republican senators. Lloyd was at that time also a member of the Governing Council of Utah and represented his country in a joint committee, in which the heads of each government councils of all U.S. states were represented (Board of Managers of the Council of State Governments ). Between 1961 and 1962 he was also a member of Tax Commission. In the years 1960 and 1966, Lloyd was a delegate at all party conferences of the Republicans in Utah. During the same period he was a director of the Beehive State Bank. In 1960 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention, was nominated for the Richard Nixon as a presidential candidate.

Congressman

In 1960, Lloyd Sherman ran for the first time for the U.S. House of Representatives. But with the election, he defeated David S. King of the Democratic Party. Two years later he was elected as the successor to King in the Congress, where he completed a legislative period between January 1963 and January 3, 1965 3. In 1964 he not applied for a re-election. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully within his party for the nomination for the U.S. Senate. His deputy seat was now back to David King.

In the following two years, Lloyd was back in Utah, where he was also Vice- President of a financial institution ( Prudential Federal Savings ). He also lectured at the University of Utah. In the congressional elections of 1966 he was again elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After several re- elections he could exercise his mandate between January 1967 and January 3, 1973 3. After his return from Washington, he held 1973-1974 lectures again. He then headed the Department of Commerce of Utah. In 1976, Sherman Lloyd ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate. He then became a newspaper publisher. He died in December 1979 in Salt Lake City.
