Biñan

Biñan City ( Tagalog: Lungsod ng Biñan ) is a Philippine component city in the province of Laguna, in the administrative region IV, Calabarzon. It has 283 396 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 24 barangays. It is classified as a church of the first income class in the Philippines and as a highly urbanized. Biñan City was founded in 1571 by Juan de Salcedo, only a month after the founding of Manila by Miguel López de Legazpi.

Geography

Biñan City is located in the northwest of the province of Laguna, the largest freshwater lake in the Philippines, the Laguna de Bay. The neighboring municipalities are San Pedro in the North West, Santa Rosa City to the south, Carmona and General Mariano Alvarez in the West. The topography of the city is characterized by extensive lowlands, which occupy about 86 % of the city. The city is located about 40 km south of the capital region Metro Manila and is accessible via the South Luzon Expressway. Since 2010 there is also a train to Central Station Tutuban in Manila, it is offered by the Philippine National Railways.

Climate

The climate of Biñan City is characterized by a separation into a dry and rainy season. The dry season begins in November and ends in April, the rest of the year is characterized by regular precipitation that be strongest in June and July. Biñan City is within the Philippine typhoon belt, but is protected by the high mountain ranges of the Sierra Madre.
