Bolhrad

Bolhrad (Ukrainian Болград; Russian and Bulgarian Болград, or Romanian in Latin font Bolgrad ) is a city in southern Ukraine, about 176 kilometers southwest of Odessa. It is the center of the same name Rajons Bolhrad and lies on the northern shore of Jalpuhsees near the border with Moldova.

It was founded in 1821 by Bulgarian refugees belonged to the Principality of Moldavia from 1856 to 1859, from 1859 to 1878 and from 1918 to 1940 the Principality and Kingdom of Romania, and then to 1991 the Soviet Union.
