Botterens

Botterens ( Freiburg Patois Botèrin? / I ) is a municipality in the canton of Fribourg Greyerzbezirk in Switzerland. The former German name Botter Ingen is no longer used today. With effect from 1 January 2006, the formerly independent municipality Villarbeney was incorporated into Botterens.

Geography

Botterens is located on 744 m above sea level. M., 4 km east of the district main town cop (air line). The former street line village extends on a terrace above the southern end of the Gruyère lake, at the foot of the Fribourg Alps.

The area of ​​4.2 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the pre-alpine area of the uplands. In the West Botterens has a small proportion of the area of ​​the lake lake of Gruyère in the region of the mouth of the Jaunbach (French: Jogne ). Population

With 504 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Botterens one of the small communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the 93.8 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.8 % and 0.8 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Botterens amounted in 1850 to 182 residents in 1900 to 196 inhabitants (including Villarbeney ). Since 1960 (219 inhabitants), a rapid population growth, with a doubling of the population was recorded within 40 years.

Economy

Botterens was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. History

Already in Roman times, the area was inhabited by Botterens, as evidenced by the discovery of Gallo-Roman tombs. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1227 under the name Bothereyn. Later, the spellings Bosthereyn ( 1403 ), Bocterens ( 1490 ) and Boterens (1668 ) published. The place name is probably derived from the Burgundian personal names Bolterius and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Bolterius.

Botterens been since the Middle Ages part of the rule Corbières, which came under the suzerainty of Freiburg in 1553. In 1779, numerous houses a fire fell victim. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic to the sub-prefecture Corbières, which was raised in 1803 in the status of a district. 1848 Botterens was incorporated with Corbières in the Greyerzbezirk. On 1 January 2006, the merger was completed with the hitherto politically independent municipality Villarbeney. The new community continues to bear the name Botterens.

Attractions

After Botterens had solved in 1871 by the parish Broc, the church of Saint -Claude started with the classical building. The church was consecrated in 1878.
