Bridges and tunnels in New York City

In New York City there are 2,027 bridges. Here it is mainly about the bridges and tunnels in New York harbor area as crossings of waters in and around New York. The longest bridge is the south to the Verrazano -Narrows Bridge between Staten Iceland and Brooklyn over the entrance to the Atlantic.

Besides these main bridges to / from Manhattan there are in all of New York, among many normal and 25 movable bridges: two Einziehbrücken, seven swing bridges, four drawbridges and twelve drawbridges. Because it 's always about the connection of two areas for bridges and tunnels, it is useful to restrict themselves not only to the New York City area, but also to consider the various partners who were involved in the construction. The term " New York Harbor " is above all a rough geographical description of the area on the border between the states of New York and New Jersey, as well as the so-called systems of joint port authority of the U.S. neighboring States, the Port Authority of New York and New jersey ( PANYNJ ), comprises by far not all relevant port space systems and regulatory issues of road and rail traffic to and from New York.
