British Covered Court Championships

The British Covered Court Championships ( " British Indoor Championships " ) was a tennis tournament in London, which was played from 1885 to 1971.

History

In the first five years, the tournament was held in the hall of Hyde Park Lawn Tennis Club as men's singles. In 1890 the Queen's Club hosted the tournament in his hall. In the same year a women's singles and men's doubles competition was added to the program, in 1898 the mixed doubles. 1923, the Challenge Round was abolished so that the defending champion also had to play through by the participants.

Until the 1950s, the British Indoor Championships were an important tournament, then let their significance after. After the start of the Open Era, the tournament in 1970 and 1971, short-term part of the launched by the ITF Tennis Grand Prix. After the tournament in 1957 and 1966 and 1967 had to be canceled due to a lack of sponsors, it was discontinued in 1971.
