History

Revealed was the "Move" games by the club president of Kickers Offenbach, Horst- Gregorio Canellas, the guests surprised at the celebration of his 50th birthday on June 6, 1971, playing a tape recorder. The listening to recordings of various phone calls had match-fixing and bribery on the topic. Horrified left Germany coach Helmut Schön the party. Media representatives reported on the scandal in the Bundesliga. Also, the German Football Association (DFB), the tape with the voices of the players, was it that made Canellas unique bribe offers (among the national players Bernd Patzke and Manfred Manglitz ) because Kickers Offenbach was also threatened by relegation.

On the conducted by the DFB - " chief prosecutor " Hans Kindermann investigation it was found that, among other things, the Bundesliga match of FC Schalke 04 against Arminia Bielefeld ( April 17, 1971, final score 0:1 ) had been "sold" from Gelsenkirchen players. Then, in 1973 almost all players of Schalke team were sentenced to match suspensions. The most famous convicts were the national team Reinhard " Stan" Libuda ( life imprisonment, commuted after two years ), Klaus Fichtel ( life sentence, pardoned after six months ) and Klaus Fischer ( life sentence mitigated to a year ). Even Manfred Manglitz, Goalkeeper of the 1st FC Cologne, was twice banned for life ( and pardoned after two years ). These sports court decisions came in part because of advance perjury nor proceedings before ordinary courts.

A total of 52 players, two coaches ( Egon Piechaczek Arminia Bielefeld, and Günther Brocker of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen ) punished and six club officials - even Canellas because he had entered on the phone to the bill on the bribery deals. A total of 1.1 million marks had been detected in bribes. In addition, the clubs Arminia Bielefeld and Kickers Offenbach the Bundesliga license was revoked. For Bielefeld in 1972, this was connected to a demotion and a "ghost season ". With 15 players involved Hertha BSC was most affected.

The Rot -Weiss Essen, who in 1971 was the other descended because of the manipulation, no redress was granted. Nevertheless, he managed after two years the leap back to the Bundesliga.
