History

Origin

The road between Louis lust and Parchim in 1845 expanded to highway. A year later, the road to Lübz was continued. In 1936 the first road bridge over the Elbe was opened in Doemitz, which was destroyed in 1945.

Earlier routes and designations

The National Highway 191 was introduced around 1937. During the German division of this road was interrupted by the inner German border. The western section between Celle and the River Elbe in Dannenberg (Elbe ) belonged to the Federal Republic of Germany and was designated as federal highway 191. The eastern section between Doemitz and Plau am See was in the German Democratic Republic and was named highway 191 (abbreviation F 191).

Since the new building in 1992 was the 970 m long Elbebrücke Doemitz the highway is one continuous section again.
